Hadnall Parish Council is currently developing a new Community-Led Plan. The project was launched in January this year and a working party formed made up of local residents.

The Community Led Plan will create a vision for our parish over the coming years, directly influencing local priorities, services, and development.

For all the communities within Hadnall, your perspective is vital to us. We want to ensure that our future strategies support a thriving local economy, address business challenges, and build on local strengths.

Hadnall Parish Council is in desperate need of new parish councillors. We now have four vacancies on the council that should have eight members. With such a small number of councillors, there is a real risk of meetings being inquorate, decisions left unmade, actions on behalf of the whole community not taken, and legal responsibilities not met.

The only commitment is to attend the parish council meetings held once every two months, and to do your best to attend any urgent meetings called in between. (These don't happen often - usually linked to big planning applications.) Any commitment beyond that is at the individual councillor's discretion.

Parish Councillors come from all walks of life. You don't have to have any experience or particular skills - just be an interested local resident. There are a couple of legal requirements, but other than that the only necessary qualification is a desire to support and represent your community.

What is it all about?

Parish Councillors are the volunteers who keep the most immediate part of local government running in your community.

Although 'parish' is in our name, modern parish councils no longer have any direct links with the church - the word simply describes a geographic area.

Hadnall Parish Council looks after play areas, grounds maintenance, lighting, benches, and some land, as well as forming a vital liaison between residents, larger landowners, the principal council, and other contractors. The Parish Council is also a statutory consultee on all local planning applications.

The monies handled by the Parish Council come from a small part of your Council Tax (called the parish precept) and from grants and other funding streams, including Neighbourhood Fund payments linked to new building. Using public consultation and democratic decision-making, the parish council looks to use those funds for the benefit of residents.

The Parish Council can also play a key role in getting outside agencies to engage with the community; for example, the current project work being undertaken by Severn Trent with regard to flooding issues is thanks, in no small part, to the fantastic work of then-Chair Laura Tarburton.
